ARDA-ROC Sponsors The Caribbean Society of Hotel Association Executives (CSHAE) Annual Leadership Conference

On January 20-22, 2012, Hotel and Tourism Association Executives representing 20 different national jurisdictions in the Caribbean region assembled in Nassau, Bahamas to participate in their annual leadership conference. ARDA-ROC served as a sponsor for this year's event. Among other priorities, CSHAE members discussed regional hotel and lodging trends and emerging legislative threats to the industry.

Keith Stephenson, ARDA-Caribbean liaison, provided CSHAE members with an update on the ongoing activities of the ARDA-Caribbean Committee as well as a detailed legislative report for those countries where the committee is most active. Stephenson also recognized and thanked individual members for their ongoing collaboration on legislative matters of shared interest.

"Providing effective legislative advocacy remains the primary mission of the ARDA-Caribbean Committee", said Stephenson. "This has become more difficult than ever before given the lingering impact of the global recession which has made it more difficult for Caribbean governments to fund important social programs and maintain stable levels of employment in the public and private sectors."

This type of environment is ripe for legislative challenges that will negatively impact the timeshare industry (both developers and owners) and the entire Caribbean travel and tourism industry if not properly confronted. It is for this reason that ARDA-ROC was a proud sponsor of the 2012 CSHAE Leadership Conference.

This partnership has provided hotel associations throughout the region, ARDA, and ARDA-ROC the opportunity to leverage resources to ensure that the best possible legislative, legal and regulatory environment exists for the Caribbean lodging marketplace as a whole.
